Golden Dorado - River Tiger

You will be staying in “Gaucho country” on working cattle estancias. We have several different locations that we fish on the Parana tributaries, the Esteros Ibera’ and the Rio Corrientes. Accommodations are cozy, Spanish-style adobe ranch houses with comfortable bedrooms and modern plumbing. Delicious meals are served family style with local flavors. Beef and lamb are Argentina’s prime meats, with beef being their largest export product. Chicken and fish are also served along with garden fresh vegetables and homemade breads. The Argentine barbecue, the “Asada” is an unforgettable feast. The locals say the well water is safe to drink, but bottled water is always available for your use. Your vacation package also includes beer, wine at the table and soft drinks.

The fishing program takes in the most productive hours of the morning and afternoon/evening with a siesta break mid-day when the fishing slows down. You will fish from comfortable aluminum river boats with a guide for every two anglers. On certain water, you can walk the banks, or even wade, if you bring hip boots.

The fishing season runs from October throughMarch. Because of the huge variety of water types, excellent fishing can almost always be found throughout the season.

Getting there:

You will fly to Buenos Aires, then depending on the schedule, either spend the day in the city and take the overnight first class sleeper bus to Mercedes or Goya arriving in time for a full day of fishing, or overnight in Buenos Aires and take the morning flight to Corrientes where you will be picked up by your guides. You can take the bus one way and fly back. If you would like to spend your first night in the city, you can fly both ways. The airlines from the U.S. generally land in Buenos Aires in the late morning or early afternoon and depart in the late afternoon or evening. Fishabout will be glad to help you find the most convenient and cost effective schedule.

Airport Transfers: The bus leaves from Retiro and the domestic flights leave from Aeroparque, both of which are across town from the International Airport. You can purchase a ticket outside customs for the bus that takes you to downtown hotels, the bus station or the domestic airport or take a cab.

Documentation A valid passport is required to enter Argentina, a visitors form will be issued on the airplane to be filled out and presented when going through immigration. A $13.00 US departure tax will be charged when leaving Argentina. The smaller domestic airports charge a $3.50 tax at departure. Your fishing license will be built into the price of your trip package.

Miscellaneous information: The currency is the Argentina Peso, which is equal to one US dollar. The current throughout most of Argentina is 220V, so bring converters if you need to use hairdryers, shavers or charge video cameras. Also a socket conversion kit is advised. Although mosquitos are not a big problem, bring some good quality repellant for sun down when a few bugs come out. The sun is strong, so bring a good sunblock and dress accordingly if you are sun sensitive. This area has a wet climate, so a good quality light rain jacket is a necessary item. Goya has a fine hospital and clinics with doctors on duty in case you require medical attention. There are no phones or faxes at the estancias, but you can phone or fax to any international number from Goya. At this time there are no innoculations required to visit Argentina. It is a good idea to make sure your tetanus is up to date.

Pricing: Prices vary with types of transfers being used to and from Buenos Aires, the number of days spent fishing, and the area or estancia being fished. Fishing packages include transfers from Goya, Corrientes and Resistancia airports to designated estancias, accommodations, 3 meals daily, wine with meals, beer and soft drinks and guided fishing 2 per boat,. It will be necessary to purchase a fishing license for around $60.00 per week. Extra driving transfers between different estancias will be an additional expense.
