MIND BOGGLING FISHING ON THE GREAT BARRIER REEF In addition to the Gulf of Carpentaria trips, Greg Bethune is hosting expeditions aboard the “Tropic Paradise” to the remote barrier reefs and islands east of the tip of Cape York. These waters are virtually unfished. The area has an incredible population of gamefish, both resident and pelagic. Fishing is done from the Seafaris fleet of newly built fishing skiffs. In addition, you will be able to snorkel over the most virgin part of the Great Barrier Reef, an absolutely visual sensory overload! The boat anchors protected waters at night. Each day is a new adventure as you explore, fish and snorkel this natural phenomenon. The fishing is a combination of heavy spinning, baitcasting and heavy fly-fishing. Large schools of huge snappers, coral trout, grouper and trevally cruise the reefs and aggressively strike big poppers. The waters between the reefs and just outside hold huge shoals of pelagic predators, like wahoo, spanish mackeral, dogtooth tuna and giant trevally. Marlin and sailfish have been caught from the skiffs just inside the reef. This trip would be best labeled "Extreme Angling" and is best suited for agressive fishermen looking to push their sport to the very edge!
This Live-Aboard Adventure is taking place during the months of December and March when the micro-climates in this area allow for the best chance for flat calm seas. 2009 rates:AUS$6,458.00 7 nights, 6 days For more information call toll free 888 409-2008 or email aus@fishabout.com
